The New Plug in Volkswagen Golf Hybrid

Volkswagen have announced an all new Volkswagen Golf Hybrid, However, haven't we already seen this before? Volkswagen have been producing an electric hybrid Golf model since the early seventies when they first released the city stormer versions of the first 3 Golf models.

The first plug in Hybrid model only appeared a short while ago in early 2008. Volkswagen released 20 different variants of the Hybrid Golf that only had a short non charge rate of 35 miles. Volkswagen have stated that the plug in Hybrid Golf would be back in the near future but most in the industry expect the new plug in hybrid to be due sometime next summer.

Volkswagen have designed the latest plug in hybrid powertrain to fit all the Audi and Skoda as well as the standard Volkswagen and Seat models. First of the new range to arrive will be the Audi e-tron which will arrive in the early months of this Summer. Volkswagen are yet to develop a stand alone electric powered vehicle, although they have stated that they have the ability to produce such a vehicle but they do not see it as the sensible way forward.

The plug in Hybrid Golf model will have a maximum top speed of 138mph and will reach 0-62 in a quick and industrial time of 7.6 seconds. On the other hand, the Volkswagen battery will only produce an electric power source for 31 miles before a recharge and will reach, along with the diesel engine a total of 416 miles. What is impressive on the car, is the battery recharge time, although the Golf Hybrid is obviously not powered by the electric charge alone, Volkswagen have stated that the battery recharge time on the vehicle is a minor three hours maximum.

Volkswagen have predicted promising times for the future of the electric car along with the electric hybrid as they look to challenge the success of the Nissan leaf.
