Ford have been very busy in Geneva Switzerland this week by revealing their updated Ecosport range and by driving into the show in their 2016 GT model in fashion. Amongst these new additions into the range, Ford also introduced the world to their brand new new Edge SUV model which will go on sale from later this year. The new model will be designed to challenge some other SUV models on the market including the likes of the Nissan Juke. The new model will be based on the companies new Mondeo range and will carry over some traditional features that we can see on the new range. Designed to sit amongst the Kuga and the Ecosport, some new details have come to light regarding the brand new model which shows that twenty inch wheels will be one of the most eye catching features of the new car. The new car will arrive as a five seater with a similar grille and light setup to that of the Mondeo.
However only diesel engines will be made available with the new SUV both carrying two litres each and using 'Duratorq' engine technology. There are however differences between the two setups which are the transmission and power. The first engine in the mix gives out 188 bhp and is only offered with a manual six speed gearbox. The alternative though delivers 207bhp and is available with an automatic transmission setup. The new Edge will be made available from the Summer time of this year but prices have not been confirmed as of yet.
Volvo begin work on an all new platform
Swedish form Volvo have begun work on a brand new platform for their future vehicles and is being designed with C segment cars specifically in mind. The news has already been confirmed that the new platform will be used for the next V40 and XC40 models. We would expect to see the new platform come into play from around next year but with a 2018 planned launch for the XC40, there is a chance we may be waiting just a while longer. Exact information regarding the work being put into the new platform is not being revealed in a big form as of yet but it would not surprise us to see Volvo begin using aluminium and carbon fibre materials with future platforms and their chassis. We will have more information on the new technology as and when we have it.
More hours for maintenance of Renault Vans
Renault have announced that some of their main van dealers are all set to extend their opening hours for van owners. The reason behind it is so if customers need work doing to their van, it will be much more convenient with daily responsibilities and careers being taken into consideration to get the work done out of hours. The Renault van fleet dealers confirmed the news with new opening hours being announced of later opening times during the week and dealers opening their doors over the weekends. We are unaware of which areas these Renault showrooms will be opening at more convenient times as the firm have said they will be speaking to each dealership individually to see what best suits them and their customers.
