Winter 2017 car model releases

The beginning of 2017 sees a range of new cars hitting the showrooms in preparation for the new '17' plate on March 1st. Eagerly anticipated models include:

BMW 5 Series - this new model is due in showrooms in February, comes with a new chassis, being the same basic platform as the BMW 7 Series, with plenty of refinements and innovations taken from it's larger sibling.

BMW say they want the 5 Series to drive as well as a 3 Series but feel like a 7 Series on the motorway. The 5 Series will boast an e-plugin version for the first time and also have an 'Efficiency Dynamics' 2.0 litre diesel, 8 speed automatic model that will emit just 102 g/km of CO2.

Hyundai i10 - Due in January is the facelifted compact city car from Hyundai, the i10. The revamped model made it's debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2016 and will include several enhancements to keep it up to speed with city car rivals like the VW Up and Kia Picanto.

The clear styling change is to include the new Hyundai signature front grill and the rear bumper now includes round reflectors replacing the previous square ones. An additional new red trim will be available to add to the current black and blue options. Other interior additions will see the introduction of a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen system with sat-nav.

Peugeot 3008 - another January arrival is the new 2017 Peugeot 3008 SUV. The new model will be more spacious and lighter than it's predecessor, providing the most advanced Peugeot ever produced. The new model looks to be a true SUV rival to the VW Tiguan, Nissan Qashqai, and Ford Kuga.

Aspects such as improved safety features have already seen the new 3008 attain the Euro NCAP 5 star rating. The model also boasts the best connectivity of any Peugeot car ever made and if you are interested in the novel options then you can opt for an electric scooter to be fitted as an alternative mode of transport in busy city centres.

Spring 2017 new model release dates

The rate at which new cars hit the showrooms in the spring months does not relent. Highlights of new models during this period will include:

Mini Countryman - the new Mini Countryman is due in the early months of 2017. The success of its predecessor, first launched in 2010 showed that now all Mini's had to be small. Make no mistake, the 2017 Countryman has grown again and is set to rival SUVs like the Nissan Qashqai, Seat Ateca and even the Audi Q2.

The new Countryman range really offers all things to all people. A new plugin hybrid can provide up to 134 mpg if used frugally, yet if you want to put your foot down then you can get 221 bhp with a 0-62mph time of 6.9 seconds. Unbelievable.

Land Rover Discovery - the fifth generation of the iconic Discovery model was revealed on the eve of the Paris Motor Show in 2016. If a car could ever be described as an investment then the Discovery could fit that description. Industry experts CAP say they believe a 3-year-old, 36,000 miles example could retain 59% of its initial new purchase value. That is even an improvement on the previous Discovery.

The new model will be built at Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull plant, and is both longer and sits lower than the 4th generation Disco. The new model will also boast the Jaguar Land Rover Ingenium 4 cylinder diesel in the model range.

Mazda MX-5 RF - The new hard top (RF stands for Retractable Fastback) version of the ever popular MX-5 from Mazda will hit the showrooms in Spring 2017. Mazda hopes it will become the best-selling version of the model in the UK.

Whilst it shares the same engines as the standard MX-5 the looks of the new model are subtly different and are sure to be a hit for anyone considering a roadster for their next vehicle.

Summer 2017 onwards

Ford Fiesta - The UK's best-selling vehicle sees the advent of its 7th Generation launched in 2017. The new model looks to be not only bigger than the hugely successful 6th Gen model but also more 'up market'.

The success of the model, that dates back to the 1970's, has seen Ford consistently at the top of the sales charts. There is nothing to suggest the 7th Gen Fiesta will do anything other than protect that stranglehold for years for come.

Nissan Qashqai - The new Qashqai will hit the Nissan showrooms towards the end of 2017. The Qashqai model has proved a real hit in the SUV market, and the new model will only add to the options for the SUV market.

One innovation would be the addition of a high-end Tekna + spec that will retail above £30,000 and may bring the model into competition with the Audi Q3 and BMW X1.

Volkswagen Toureg - Following the route followed by the new VW Tiguan, the 2017 Volkswagen Toureg promises to be more luxurious than its predecessor.

Like the current model, the range will be all 4 wheel drive and feature 4 cylinder petrol and diesel engines. There is also a possibility that the hybrid unit shown at the Beijing Motor Show may also make it to the 2017 Toureg line up. If so that unit could deliver up to 381bhp, 50 miles on a full charge and up to 94mpg on its most economical setup.

Prices for the 2017 Toureg will start around the £45,000 mark.
