New CarPlay I Phone Technology

New CarPlay I Phone Technology

Motorists will soon be able to add the CarPlay I phone connectivity by Apple, to their existing radio in their car, which means that it wouldn't be exclusive to vehicles that were revealed with the system already in the car at the Geneva Motor Show this year.

The new form of I-Phone technology looked to give certain models the edge in what can be a very tight car market. However, it seems that the makes and models that have the technology fitted within it will not have the exclusivity of the software.

Pioneer and Alpine, the radio manufacturers have both said already that they are working along with apple to introduce the CarPlay software to their existing car stereo head units, along with their new ones.

CarPlay lets you pair up a compatible iPhone, such as the 5, 5S or 5C with the infotainment system of your car, which controls the touchscreen, buttons and voice through the car's in built screen.

The Carplay also works along with Siri to send and receive text messages as well, which means that drivers are able to keep in touch with their friends, without having to take their hands off the wheel.

Drivers are also able to use CarPlay to use a sat-nav that is downloaded on their phone, which means that it could mean the end for the built in conventional sat-nav systems that feature in many current vehicles.

Videos however cannot be played through CarPlay, which means that drivers cannot catch up with their TV programmes whilst they are stuck in traffic, and good job too.

The prices for radios that can work with CarPlay are allegedly going to start at about £550. Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes, Volvo and Ferrari have all confirmed that their vehicles will be available with CarPlay from some point this year. Whilst other manufacturers such as Ford, BMW and Jaguar have all said that they are looking to introduce CarPlay sometime in the future.
