Electric Car Trial in the UK

New Electric Car Investment

The popularity of both the electric car and the hybrid car has gone through the roof over the past two years with a number of major manufacturers investing in the new technology. The likes of the Nissan Leaf have been the major contributors to the success of the market in the past 18 months.

Other manufacturers such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes have all joined the market with further models expected to back up the assault. The Government scheme in the UK has also helped increase the popularity of the electric car as well as increasing the infrastructure of the electric car.

There have been a number of infrastructure based projects undergoing up and down the country, as the majority of train stations and supermarkets up and down the country put electric charging stations in position.

It is believed that a number of electricity companies are coming together to test the maximum ability of charging stations and what happens if a whole road charges their vehicles at the same time.

The trial got underway in Buckinghamshire this week as nine neighbours received Nissan Leaf models. The neighbours will own their vehicles for the next 18 months and will provide information to the companies on the different ways to manage the demand for electricity.

It is said that the demand for electricity reaches its peak during the time of 5:30pm and 6:30pm, when residents make it home from work and switch on appliances such as the television, oven and lighting.

The companies already know the different trends for surges, but do not understand the charging demands or charging trends in terms of time. If the vehicle is used on a day to day basis then it is likely that the vehicle will be charged over night, as many of the UK do their mobile phones.
