The new Renaultsport Clio Specification

Renault have released the full specification for the new Renaultsport Clio 200 Turbo. Renault have released the information to spark interest way ahead of the order books before the new hot hatch opens in April. The new model is a far cry from the current 3 door 2.0 litre engine model, as it is available only with five doors, an EDC six speed dual clutch gearbox and a 197 brake horsepower 1.6 litre turbocharged engine.

Whilst the model which was unveiled first at Paris's motor show in 2012 power is the same as the outgoing 2.0 litre model, the torque is up 25nm to 240 nm. Economy has also jumped by 10.3 mpg to 44.8 mpg, though CO2 emissions have fallen to 144g.

The model is said to go from 0-62 in 6.7 seconds and has top speeds of 143 miles per hour, which benefits from the six speed dual clutch gearbox having a launch control function built into it and that the newer model actually weighs 36kg less than the outgoing vehicle, at 1,204 kg.

The old Clio was a sure favourite and said to actually be one of the best hot hatches to drive, the new car is said to have the potential to follow in it's footsteps and to achieve the same if not better levels. The new model has hydraulic compression control 2 stage dampers which is a technology better known for it's use on rally cars. Renault have exclaimed that as well as improving the cornering grip at high speeds, this technology will also offer a more comfortable ride.

The RS Diff is also contributing to handling, using the brakes to mimic actions of a limited slip, with bigger breaks and suspension that is said to be 10% stiffer than the previous Clio model. The Renaultsport Clio is available cup or sport , the cup will give 3mm lower and 15% stiffer suspension, a quicker steering rack and 18 inch alloys.

All cars have been said to come with RS Drive control, race, sport and normal models to choose from. These are said to increase the engine's response progressively and give more control for a manual gearshift. It is also said to speed up the gearbox shift times to 150 ms whilst in Race mode. Sport and Race mode also offers the launch control function.

Renault's R-Link system is also included in the Renaultsport Clio and can be upgraded if so desired to the RS monitor, which is a telemetry system involving a display of the engines parameters, it is also customisable, a GPS stopwatch for monitoring laptimes and performance data.

Other specification highlights include Renaultsport seats, bluetooth and the RS sound pipe, which can transmit the sound of the models engine into the cabin of the vehicle. This can also be customised if you so wish to sound like a range of others cars , such as the R8 Gordini, Nissan GT-R and Alpine A110. The first UK deliveries will begin in June of this year with the model being built in Renault's factory in Dieppe, France. There are five body colours to choose from and the full prices for the vehicle will be declared on the 28th February. Though, the new Clio model is anticipated to cost more than the Peugeot 208 Gti and Ford Fiesta ST, with their model prices starting at £16,995 and £18,895, though the new Renaultsport Clio is expected to cost less than the Ford Focus ST, which comes in at £21,995.
