Have an electric car charger set up on your property?

As we all know living costs are rising up and up and up constantly, so it is natural for people to look for new ways to boost their income or to save on the spending this coming year. Though what would you think about the idea of turning your front driveway into a garage. Now your starting to wonder what this could possibly mean. What if you could rent out the space at the front of your home so that electric vehicle owners and drivers could charge their electric motors.

This may sound bizarre but there is already a scheme up and running in London to give drivers the opportunity to do just that. People have the option of having installed an electric vehicle charging point at the front of their properties for no cost. Then home owners can rent out the charge point to electric vehicle owners and keep the fee for themselves. The project has been set up by Source London and parkatmyhouse.com, which is a website that allows people to rent out parking spaces, garages and driveways. The Government's plugged in place's scheme, the SSE energy company and electric charge point manufacturer Chargemaster are involved in the scheme aswell. It is said that due to the scheme there is the opportunity of 200 home owners in London to have one of the charging points installed on their property for no fee, the points usually cost £1,500. This is going to be a massive advantage for electric vehicle owners who are working, living in or visiting the Capital. Under the scheme electric vehicle owners can book parking spaces and charging points at parkmyhouse.com. Drivers can simply enter the place and time that they are seeking and then book a charge point. This gives people the option of reserving a place where they can charge their vehicle in advance rather than risking turning up at a public point on the hope that one is free. So far there have been 20 charge points installed or scheduled to be installed in places that are listed on the site. Home owners are actually able to charge their own cost for charging an electric vehicle, which is then added to the overall fee for the space. This initiative has been set up in order to encourage an increase in electric vehicle ownership. These charing points will be added to the already existing 800 that are already in public places around London. There have even been plans to set up the scheme around different places around the United Kingdom. With Parkatmyhouse.com in talks with the Source East which will cover the East of England, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Peterborough, Bedford, Luton, Thurrock, Southend , Norfolk and Suffolk. Having one of the charge points installed on your property is said to actually add value to your home and obviously offer benefits for the environment too.
