Did you know we now have less space to park our cars?

According to a recent report the amount of car parking space in the UK has dropped by 9% in the last 10 years.

Ok so what does this actually mean to me and you?

Since 2001 the average motorist has seen the space erroded for parking near their homes drop by nearly one meter, from 9.84 back in 2001 to just 8.97 in 2011.

With an estimated fifteen percent more cars on the road in the last ten years alone it means that the amount of parking we have is not keeping up with our current driving and motoring habits. ( report commissioned by Liverpool Victoria )

Ok so the amount of room we have is getting tighter, well yes and this gets worse when you compare the Uk's top selling cars which are now an average of 4.3 meters and that is 15 inches more than they where back in 2001.

It will come as no surprise to hear that this issue is magnified when we look at areas of high population such as the capital, where the City of Westminster has an average car parking space of just 4.33 meters per car. That is a whopping 21 % less than back in 2001..

So who else now has less room to park?

According to the study

  • Harlow,
  • Broxbourne,
  • Slough,
  • Watford
  • Stevenage all have the least amount of car parking space per car.

So next time you struggle into a car parking space remember it may not entirely be your fault!
