The new car sales figures for the 62 plate launch in September 2012 were released recently, and the result was a pleasant surprise to the motor industry........if not to GapInsurance123! Earlier in the month we had reported that sales of GapInsurance123 products were at record levels, and surmised that this may represent a productive month for the motor industry in the UK.
Indeed this has proved to be the case.
Recent figures released by the SMMT shows that just under 360,000 new cars were registered in September, which is a significant rise of 8.2% on the same month last year and 26,000 more vehicle sales than the organisation had predicted.
The figures for individual model sales have been released also, and again make interesting reading. The move towards smaller, more economic vehicles has continued with the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa leading the way. The formally dominant Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus and VW Golf make up the next three places.
Perhaps more surprisingly the next spot was occupied ny the Mercedes C Class, not usually associated with 'volume sales'. However, the model remains extremely popular on Contract Hire and PCP style deals, due to high residual values.
The BMW 3 series continued its popularity at the number 7 spot, showing that even prestige manufacturers, such as Mercedes and BMW can challenge the brands more normally known for mass production.
The final three spots were held by the Nissan Qashqai, VW Polo and the Peugeot 208.
The strong figures were reflected in the sale of Gap Insurance products from GapInsurance123. Gap protection is associated with the sale of new vehicles, and the month represented a record month for the brand. This in no small part is explained by such a strong retail month in the motor dealer showrooms.
