Doctor Who 13 Year old Vauxhall raises £6,300 at auction
July 19, 2013
Matt Smith who is otherwise known as Doctor Who, has raised £6,300 for his pre tardis vehicle, which is a Vauxhall Corsa that he has owned since he was 18 years old, for a children's charity.

Matt Smith, who is from Northampton, donated the vehicle to the Starlight Children's Foundation, who grant wishes to terminally ill children so that the charity could auction the car on eBay.

Smith, who is a graduate of University of East Anglia, is an ambassador for the children's charity and nicknamed the car, The Shed. The Charity explained that a normal Corsa of the same age would only be worth around £250.

The auction of the vehicle, that was first registered in November 2000 and has around 60,000 miles on the clock, started with a bid of 99p ten days ago.

After a battle of 64 people who bidded on the vehicle, the auction closed with one new owner paying £6,300.  Previously to the auction, Matt Smith explained that one of the reasons for donating the vehicle was because it has sat on his parents driveway unused and he understood that they now wanted their driveway back. He also went on to describe the winning bid as brilliant.

The chief executive of the Starlight Children's Foundation said that the charity aims to brighten the lives of seriously and terminally ill children and the charity are extremely grateful to Matt for donating his first car, which he loved. He went on to say that the funds that were raised from the auction will help the charity to bring laughter and fun to some very poorly children and their families.
