Toyota LCV deal with PSA

PSA the parent company of Peugeot and Citroen have not a good start to the year with a planned 8000 job loss and partial closure of their assembly plant in Aulnay so at last we have some good news.

This comes in the form of a collaboration with Toyota UK commercial.

At present the once strong Toyota van range is some what limited with just the ever popular Hilux pick up which is now on the run out phase of its commercial life and the deal could be fantastic news for both manufacturers.

Peugeot Citroen will be charged with supplying medium sized vans based on their current models the Peugeot Expert and the Citroen Jumpy.

The deal will mean that Toyota will be able to provide vans via its own already existing dealer network without the additional expense of having to re-invest in specialist LCV networks.

The deal also includes building ties which will mean that the two brands will be working together on the design and production of the next generation of vans and is hoped to mean a long lasting relationship.

A spokes person for Toyota is reported to have said "The light commercial vehicle segment is an important one for us in many markets throughout Europe. By joining forces with PSA Peugeot Citroen, we have found a good solution for our loyal customers following the recent discontinuation of our own Hiace model. We already enjoy a successful joint-venture partnership with PSA Peugeot Citroen in the small car segment and they are a leader in the European light commercial vehicle market, with a solid reputation for quality and versatility.”

With the design, and production of new models requiring such a massive investment it is not surprising and we anticipate that many more manufacturers will be collaborating on ventures like this.

So why not let us know what you think is the deal good news for LCV owners and drivers or are Toyota simply trying to cash in an the LCV market without the capital investment?
