It was reported today in
Autocar that the next version of the Honda Accord will not be available in the UK. There are a number of reasons why this decision may be reached, not least of which is weakening sales in this sector of the market.
There has been a distinct shift in consumers purchasing vehicles in the 'D' sector to downsizing to the Golf size of vehicle.
Also, the Accord model is imported and not built in the UK. The economies of this process may not be worthwhile for the manufacturer anymore as the Japanese Yen is very strong against Sterling at the moment.
Honda report that over 90% of the Honda models sold in the UK are built in the UK also.
The Accord may be destined to join the niche models like the CR-Z and the Insight as the Japanese manufacturer look to make tough decisions in the marketplace.
